Overview:
The Sisterhood is a secretive Bloodline of women who had been Gangrel, but through a ritual entwinement with spiritual energy became something . . . else. Their progenitor, “Nana” or Kahenta, was a powerful healing woman among her people when the vikings arrived in North America. She was embraced by a Valkyrie from Europe before setting out on her own, away from everything she had ever known with only the spirits as her guide. Kahenta would go on to found her brood through the centuries. Her “Sisters” travel far and wide throughout North America, though are welcomed back at the half moon for a gathering in a cave in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Not every Sister makes the journey to the cave for every gathering, though all are always welcome and come when they can.
The Sisterhood is primarily concerned with guarding the interests of the spirits of the earth and shepherding them in these trying times. The Sisterhood is also aware of an unraveling of the world, of which the Gehenna myths are a part. They therefore strive to find small corners of the earth to save when the time comes. They spread far to follow signs and listen to the stirrings of the spirits.
The Sisterhood is skilled in the arts of Spiritus, a signature Discipline of immense power and adaptability. Sisters are often associated with mountain lions, both as traveling companions and as Protean shapes to which they are most often attuned.
The Sisterhood number is small and selective. Few know of their existence and they wield no political power whatsoever, though that is not their aim.
Ameline
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Ahmeline is a French creole woman who makes her range in Upstate New York to Vermont and New Hampshire. Ameline attended the Sisterhood Gather at a cave in the Blue Ridge Mountains on December 26, 1994. She shared her stories around the fire: primarily that she had witnessed the region empty out of Sabbat packs, coming to the war in the Potomac. The Sabbat flank is largely unguarded and its cities are emptied of Cainites . . . for the time being. Ameline was among the sisters who witnessed the Gateways manipulate the node in the cave.
Blue, Luna
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Luna Blue has long, dark hair. She is lithe and muscular yet curvy with piercing blue-white eyes. Luna attended the Sisterhood Gather at a cave in the Blue Ridge Mountains on December 26, 1994. Luna met up with Rose and the others of her coterie when they came to the cave. She had some discussions with Rose in private about the Path of the Whispering Spirits. Luna left Rose with an item of power when she went on her sojourn back to her range before Rose arose the next night.
Freyjasdottir, Helga
Valkyrie (Ahrimane). Helga has never been met as yet by the Player Characters, but Rose heard tale of Nana/Kahenta’s sire who braved the icy waters of the North Atlantic in a viking longboat to make her way to Vinland (modern day Newfoundland, Canada). She was either sent into torpor or final death by the Beast who attacked her and her childe some time before the English and French colonization of North America. Whether she has passed on or remains on or in the earth is unknown.
Frieda
Gangrel-turned-Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Frieda was an outlander Gangrel who Rose had befriended. As a Gangrel, she didn’t travel much into the cities unless she had to. Rose sought her advice and training on a number of occasions, as they were introduced at a Gangrel Gather in the 80s. Rose flew as a bird of prey to meet Frieda on December 8, 1994 at one of her farms out in the boonies of Virginia following the Fall of Georgetown. She gave Rose shelter for the day and some advice and intel. The next night, she took Rose to meet with someone who had “changed her life forever,” Nana. She hunted with Rose and the other cats of the Sisterhood and revealed to Rose that she had already made the transformation. Once Rose was ready, Frieda was a part of the ritual spiritual embrace of Rose into the Sisterhood. Rose returned to Frieda’s farm outside of Lovettesville, Va. with her new coterie on December 25, 1994. Frieda agrees to provide hospitality to the group if they will provide blood for three ghouls who have been starved of viable vampiric vitae for too long. Asa is able to feed the ghouls, at the cost of his own moral code. Frieda leads the coterie into the mountains, first by truck and then on foot. They go with her to the Sisterhood’s ritual cave. Frieda participates in the Gather over the next night. After besting Black Spiral Dancers, the coterie elects to return to Frieda’s farm from the compromised cave. Frieda packs the few belongings of the Sisterhood, and the troupe leaves with the coterie, Vousette, Nana Kahenta and those traveling with the coterie. Frieda helps the caravan to make it to the Temple outside Manassas. She then leaves on December 27, 1994 for a mission to the north.
Gabriela
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Gabriela appears as a middle-aged hispanic woman. Gabriela met Rose at the Sisterhood’s mountain lion-filled cave in the mountains near the West Virginia border on December 9, 1994. Gabriela went hunting with Rose as a great cat. She recounts that in life she had been a union organizer, but her daughter was killed by hired goons of the bosses. On December 10, Gabriela was in her monstrous (yet beautiful) werecat form to perform the rites upon Rose, transforming her into a Sister. Gabriela is among the Sisters at the Gather on December 26, 1994 at the Sisterhood cave in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Around the fire, she tells of her escape from a fight with Black Spiral Dancers, yet confirming the death of their Sister, Maria. She had been wounded in the battle. Gabriela was among the Sisters who witnessed the Gateways manipulate the node in the cave. The following night, Gabriela left shortly after sundown.
Kahenta, “Nana”
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Matriarch of the Sisterhood. Rose met Kahenta in a cave in the mountains near the West Virginia border on December 9, 1994. Kahenta was surrounded by mountain lions and her Sisterhood. After listening to Rose’s unlife story, “Nana” told Rose of hers. According to Kahenta, she was a shaman or spiritual woman of a people in what is now known as Newfoundland, Canada, but to her, was a sacred place. Vikings landed nearby shortly after 1020 (though, Kahenta was not aware of “dates” for such things until the 1960s or 1970s) and brought with them at least one Kindred stowaway: Helga Frejasdottir. Helga was running from a creature and sought the aid of Kahenta who has never turned away a woman in need: even from this Cainite the likes of which Kahenta had never seen. A “beast” known only as a Jormundander attacked Kahenta and Helga. Kahenta’s spirits fought off the creature, but not before it had mortally wounded Kahenta. According to Kahenta, Helga embraced her in gratitude. Kahenta left her people for fear that she might hurt them. She travelled, but was put into torpor after a battle and rested for centuries until her spirits woke her.
She tells Rose that she has since travelled about, gathering her spirits and mountain lions and those Kindred women who would join her in working to preserve a slice of the world from the depredations of an upcoming apocalyptic event. Kahenta asked Rose to join the Sisterhood, but informed her of the costs. The following night, on December 10, 1994, Nana began the ritual on Rose to transform her into one of the Sisters. She exsanguinated Rose, spitting her blood into the fire, and then gifted Rose her own blood while the other Sisters forced the spirits into Rose’s body. The spirits tore into Rose, renewing her and transforming her powers into the equivalent of an Ahrimane, though the Sisters are unaware of that lineage. Nana was in the cave with only Vousette when Rose awoke on December 14. She answered Rose’s questions and told her that she would be back at the Sisterhood cave in the half moon. Rose next saw Nana Kahenta at the Sisterhood Gather on December 25, 1994. Nana guided the Gateways in their abilities to manipulate ley lines and nodes, confirming her belief. The following evening, the Sisterhood dispersed. Nana, Vousette, Frieda and the Player Characters fled the cave after a messy confrontation with two Black Spiral Dancers. After gathering forces at Frieda’s farm, Nana accompanied Rose and her party. Frieda left their number after they arrived at the Temple near Manassas. Nana and Vousette went on a tour about the anomaly site and then set about creating a spiritual flame to keep the area obfuscated. Nana would tend to the flame and speak with her conjoined spirit, Ya-hewei, throughout the next few nights, rousing to aid from time to time, such as on December 28, 1994, when Rose roused her after the door to the Temple was opened. She advised discretion and patience.
Kara
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Kara is a woman with bushy, curly red hair. Rose met her on December 9, 1994 at the Sisterhood’s mountain cave. Kara went hunting with Rose in her cat form. The following night, Kara had a tunic she had made for Rose to wear. Kara transformed into her werecat form and startled Rose. After Nana calmed down Rose, Kara joined with her Sisters in the rites to transform Rose into one of them. Rose came to know that she had been a social worker in life and was brutally taken by the Sabbat. She was freed of the Vaudlerie by the ritual making her a Sister. Kara was present at the Sisterhood Gather on December 26, 1994. She was a witness to the Gateways using their power to manipulate a node. Kara related her stories by the fire during the Gather. She left to return to her range in Tennessee following the Gather, though she pledged to return if possible at the half moon to the Sisterhood’s new location.
Maria
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Maria was among the Sisters in the mountain lion cave high in the mountains of the West Virginia border that Rose met on December 9, 1994. She is a heavy-set white woman. She told Rose that in life, she was a homemaker with an abusive husband. She made a run for it, but while out on her own, she was embraced by a Gangrel. As is often the case with Gangrel childer, she was left to wander. Maria stumbled about at unlife until Nana found her and took her in, one day re-embracing her. On December 10, Maria was in her monstrous (yet beautiful) werecat form to perform the rites upon Rose, transforming her into a Sister. Maria was to return to her range in the Pacific Northwest, and was killed in an attack by a pack of Black Spiral Dancers. Gabriela had been attacked with her, but (barely) survived. Her lost spirit, fractured from the spirit of the land, found its way back to the Sisterhood cave in rural Virginia where she thrashed about unable to communicate with her sisters. Gwenevieve noticed her and used her wiles to make Maria one of her bound spirits. [Note: to see Maria’s actions after becoming a wraith, see her entry in the Spirit Characters Page.]
Olivia
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Olivia was at the Sisterhood Gather at their cave in the Blue Ridge Mountains on December 26, 1994. Olivia was among the Sisters who witnessed the Gateways manipulate the ley lines and node in the cave. She had a quiet word in the cave with Asa about a Salubri named Helena and Olivia’s own failed attempt at a Suspire. Olivia told Asa that she would go to Montana to try to find Helena and bring her back to meet Asa (assuming Helena would come). Olivia left for Montana the next night.
Paulette
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Paulette is a Tlingit Haida woman whose range is in faraway Alaska. She traveled all the way back to the Sisterhood Gather in Virginia on December 26, 1994 to give her news. The Sisters of the North heard tale of a great war among the supernatural creatures in Russia. Garou refugees fled across the strait into Bold Eyes territory in Alaska, and the Bold Eyes took them in. She heard stories of an old witch or something who had overtaken Russia, locking everyone else out in a psychic dome: not unlike what now surrounds the Southern Potomac Empire, though broader in the types of creatures the “curtain” would target. She left the other three Sisters of the North to remain on watch in Alaska while she came to report their findings at the Gather in Virginia.
Thaia
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Thaia was a member of The Sisterhood. She was killed by corrupted “agents” of the Pentex Corporation while on a mission some time in early December, 1994. She was then split from her conjoined spirit (as a Sister) then returned to the cave of The Sisterhood in the Blue Ridge Mountains as a confused and angry wisp. She was mourned by the other Sisters in a Gather ceremony on December 26, 1994. In the ceremony, the Sisters chanted her True Name . . . which was very helpful for an attending Giovanni. Thaia’s fetters were found and used and she became bound to the necromancer, Gwenevieve Rossellini. [Note: to see Thaia’s actions as a wraith, see her entry in the Spirit Characters Page]
Vousette
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Vousette is a tall Black woman with strikingly beautiful features. Rose met Vousette in the Sisterhood’s mountain cave on December 9, 1994. Vousette seemed to be one of the primary spirit-workers to help Nana prepare the rituals. On December 10, 1994, Vousette aided in the rites to transform Rose into a Sister. Vousette stayed with Nana for the night Rose awoke in her new body in the Sisterhood cave (December 14). She said little, but intimated that she would be back at the half moon for the gathering of the Sisterhood.
Wildtree, Ora
Sisterhood (Ahrimane). Ora Wildtree attended the Sisterhood Gather at their cave in the Blue Ridge Mountains on December 26, 1994. She witnessed the Gateways as they manipulated a node. She related her stories at the fire of what she witnessed in her travels. Ora returns to her range in the American Southwest following the Gather, but promises to meet her Sisters again in their new location on a half moon when time permits her.
