How long had it been since he strode among the only dead connection to some semblance of life he ever had? Too long, he’d wager. When the weight of his sins bore too heavily in to his skull and threatened to crush his shoulders with their existence, he’d always find his way back here. Sitting in the same wooden chair that he left in here. Smoking the same kind of cigar. Something sweet, something pleasant. It helped remember his family in the best of ways. This time, he brought with him a record player for something of an ambience. Maybe his father would like some music? In truth, he needed something for that inner voice that wouldn’t stop feeling guilt and regret.
“Evenin’ Ma, Pop, Sis. How’ve ya been? Anythin’ you can tell me from the other side? Give me like a sign or somethin’ you know?” He waited for a moment, nothing came of his provocation to his passed on members. A sigh escaped his lips as he slumped his shoulders and leaned back in to the chair, “Ah, it’s just as well. If it’s okay with you I’ve been busy and can talk with ya about what’s been happen. So, where did I leave off? Ah, that’s right. The time I was busy for like, fuckin’ years straight with nearly no break. Let’s pick up after that event, yeah? I’ll try not to leave anythin’ out.” A puff of the cigar, an exhale of smoke that covered the damp and dank room in front of him helped set the stage for what would be the theater of his life. Resumed from it’s stopping point that was doused in blood.
“Right so, I started to get free around the time of 94’, you know? It seemed like a regular night for me at least. Things were goin’ well with the Family. The businesses and the like were doin’ just fine. Hell, even the new pieces of land were doing really well. I had a party to go to the next night so I had that on my mind, sure. I wasn’t really all that stressed until I got a call from a senior member of the Family.” The call that would enforce his actions for the night, how quaint that it come in the ‘morning’ for the Mobster. “Now, normally there aren’t like, fuckin’ correlations between my old life and my new one, right? Jordan told me there was someone movin’ on us and killed someone who lived next door to me. Well, as next door as you can be out here. I was tasked with findin’ out what the hell was going on. I hadn’t failed the Family yet, I wasn’t about to start doing so now. I was told to bring my ‘Seer’. Figured it was a good idea. Jinx has been doin’ nothin’ but showing me progress and loyalty to the cause. I left my room and was huntin’ her down.”
“Now, I’ve been angry before. I’ve been really angry even.” Flashbacks to the neighborhood fights that would ensue over a wayward comment about his sister or mother. As often young boys prone to do when they learned how to conjure such insults. “My group tends to do things that are too...human sometimes and it really fucks with how things are supposed to go so we keep our heads, right? When I got to Jinx’s door she was naked and trying to keep me out of the room. I noticed some weird blood stuff on the ground and a smell of...death. My blood pressure was slowly beginning to rise. I forced my way in to the room and saw these fuckin’ signs on the walls and the ground. That, honestly, was normal. Jinx sometimes went over the top and well...it was her room to do with. As long as it didn’t harm the house. Now...when I got to the shower room...my anger hit the roof.” The thought alone was almost enough to snap the cigar in his hands if it had not been so long ago.
“I managed to keep my cool long enough to see who was in the shower, this person was going through some changes. Can you guess who was in the shower water? Yeah, Chad. My anger hit an all time high. Jinx had brought in or adopted this guy in to her Family. I could feel my anger flowing out of me and Jinx was hit with the fullness of it. Solely the object of my rage at the moment. She explain the situation to me but it did not help. It was horrid situation that was now thrust in to my lap. I told her to get cleaned up and dressed, we had some business to handle.”
There were often many choices that came across his path that required attention and brutal choices. This was one such time. Chad’s life was one such problem. It needed an answer and a serious one at that. So much stress, so little time.
“As I made my way down to the lobby, I made a call to my enforcers. Capture Chad and suppress him in the way that they know how. Not a moment after I finished up with that, as I was going down stairs, and Jinx came running and was sobbing something fierce. To make matters all the more stressful in the moment Henry opted to show up at the front door. I had use of the Spy in the moment but fuckin’ hell did I want to lock everyone out for the night. I saddled up the group and we rode to the scene of this crime. I didn’t say a fuckin’ word on the way there. Too much was on my brain and my shoulders. I had so much I needed to be ready to answer and finalize when asked. By the time we made it to the scene, I was ready to meltdown.”
The scene was grisly. Bodies everywhere. Burning buildings. Confusion and cops where ever you happened to look. Vito knew the situation was going to be rough before anyone had said anything. Another stress to add to the ever growing pile.
“Luckily, Rose was there and seemed to be taking an assessment of the situation. Prentiss was there too, going over the house and such with her Family magic tricks. Another fella was there too. Karl was his name. He ran a lot of operations for the SA group. In truth, I respected his work ethic. I observed the debriefing for a moment and soaked the information I needed. I inquired a few questions regarding the firemen before noting Prentiss moving in on Jinx and Jinx kinda...starin’ at this fuckin’ house smoldering? It didn’t look good. I took Prentiss aside and asked about the firemen suits. I didn’t want to go in to a burning building but I had no choice. I had to look out for my Family interests. I was busy for a bit, but I remember seein’ Henry and Rose talking for a bit before I went in to the building. It looked like mine...It made me feel for the man who died here.”
“I had no choice. I had to press on.”
